Driving Growth: How Try Easy Electrical Solutions & Gauteng Department of Economic Development Are Empowering Auto-Electrician SMMEs

Empowering Auto-Electrician SMMEs: How Try Easy & GDED Are Driving Change

Small businesses are the backbone of South Africa’s economy, and nowhere is this truer than in the auto-electrical sector. Many township-based SMMEs have the talent, passion, and drive to succeed — but often face barriers such as lack of formal qualifications, limited access to markets, and challenges with compliance.

That’s where the new partnership between Try Easy and the Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED) steps in. Together, we are creating a pathway for auto-electrician SMMEs to not only survive, but thrive.

Closing the Skills Gap with ARPL

Through the Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) programme, auto-electrician employees and business owners can now be formally assessed and recognised for their skills. Where gaps exist, training will be provided — leading to the Red Seal certification.
This gives small businesses:

  • Formal credibility in the market
  • Stronger trust from customers
  • The ability to tender for larger projects and contracts

Building Businesses, Not Just Skills

Technical ability is essential, but running a successful business takes more. That’s why this partnership includes business development coaching tailored for SMMEs.
Auto-electrician owners will be supported with:

  • Guidance on registering with CIPC, SARS, and COIDA
  • Training on compliance, record-keeping, and financial management
  • Practical knowledge on marketing, customer service, and tendering
  • Access to procurement opportunities and broader networks

This approach ensures that SMMEs are empowered not just in the workshop, but also in the boardroom.

From Workshop Floors to Sustainable Enterprises

The programme goes beyond technical upskilling. By combining artisan recognition with business coaching, Try Easy and GDED are equipping SMMEs to grow into fully compliant, sustainable enterprises.

This means:

  • More jobs created in local communities
  • Greater competitiveness in the auto-electrical industry
  • Long-term stability and growth for township-based businesses

A Partnership for Growth

This initiative is more than just training. It’s about giving SMMEs the tools to build futures, strengthen communities, and contribute to South Africa’s economic growth.
At Try Easy, we are proud to support Auto-Electrician SMMEs — because when small businesses rise, entire communities move forward.
