Investing in the Future: TEES at the Lantern School Career Expo

Career guidance plays a defining role in shaping the future workforce, and meaningful exposure to industry opportunities at an early stage can significantly influence learners’ long-term success. TEES recently had the privilege of participating in the Lantern School Career Expo, where Grade 10, 11, and 12 learners were introduced to diverse education and career pathways designed to prepare them for life beyond the classroom.

A Platform for Real Career Conversations

The expo proved to be a highly successful engagement opportunity. Throughout the day, we interacted with learners eager to understand career options within skills development, technical training, and artisan professions. These discussions allowed learners to gain practical insight into industry expectations, workplace readiness, and the realities of transitioning from school into the working world.

Engagement with educators and school leadership strengthened collaboration between education and industry, ensuring learners receive guidance aligned with real economic opportunities.

Learning Through Industry Collaboration

The event also presented a valuable learning curve for TEES. Connecting with other institutions and training providers allowed us to observe innovative approaches being implemented across the education and training sector. These exchanges contribute to continuous improvement and reinforce the importance of collaboration in developing South Africa’s future workforce.

Why Early Career Exposure Matters

Nurturing learners at an early stage in their career journey significantly improves future success rates. When young people are exposed to career pathways while still in school, they gain clarity, confidence, and direction.

Early engagement helps learners:

  • Make informed career decisions
  • Understand industry expectations
  • Build confidence in their abilities
  • Prepare for sustainable employment opportunities

Career expos therefore play a critical role in shaping future professionals, artisans, and entrepreneurs.

Vote of Thanks

TEES would like to extend sincere appreciation to Lantern School for the invitation and for hosting such a well-organised and impactful Career Expo.

We thank the dedicated staff, educators, and all Grade 10, 11, and 12 learners who engaged with us enthusiastically throughout the day. We also value the new connections formed with fellow institutions and potential partners who contributed to the success of the event.
